Summary

Chief Ajax Killian is the leader of the state of Valhalmont. He is a large, bronze man with long dark hair in braids and a dark beard. Even though he is the leader of a state, he is a lifelong warrior and is commonly seen wielding a two-handed battleaxe. Although he is primarily known for his strength and battle prowess, he is also deeply intelligent, but is prone to be blinded by anger.

He has one son, a boy named Caleb who is always near Ajax. Due to Valhalmont's system of boys being raised by their father and the losses Ajax experienced during the War of Revolutions and the subsequent invasion of Regenia, Caleb is the only member of Ajax's family left alive, and his protection of the boy is vicious and absolute.

He is an active participant in Valhalmont's governance, with his main rule being the banning of firearms in the state. His relationship with the other state's leaders varies from tolerant acceptance to states like Yorn, Jullicut, and Pallolina to open hostility to the slave states of Tenny and Georgina.

Early Life, the Culling, and the War of Revolutions

Ajax Killian was the fifth and youngest son of Franz Killian. Due to Valhalmont's system of boys being raised by their fathers, Ajax's youth was marked by conflict. His father, brothers, and his uncle, the leader of the Valhalmont colony, Harbison Killian and his sons taught Ajax how to fight, hunt, and survive in the harsh northern climate of Valhalmont. He was the largest of his brothers and cousins, and as he got older, his size was only matched by his Uncle Harbison.

Upon the Culling, the commandment given by Deus Ultima to kill all Lyanans, the entire Killian clan took up arm in rebellion as they viewed themselves as part Lyanan. Ajax joined his family as they invaded Valhalmont's four neighboring colonies to stop their murder of Lyanans.

The demigod Cambria Unchained fought the Valhalmont forces throughout the northern colonies, and at the same time, Ari Clerks requested Harbison Killian come to Pallolina to meet other independent colonialists and determine a course of action for the future of Vinland, an event known as the Grand Colonial Council. Harbison sent Ajax in his place because he could trust Ajax to deliver Harbison's demand that Valhalmont be its own independent country. It was during the Grand Colonial Council that Ajax's father, his two oldest brothers, and most of his cousins perished at the hands of Cambria Unchained.

Upon his return to Valhalmont, the War of Revolutions was formally underway. Fueled by the deaths of his family, Ajax fought with brutal viciousness, but it wasn't until Lafayette Harmen arrived with the Colonial Vinland Military that the demigod finally fell. Ajax was impressed by Lafayette's strength, and urged his uncle to accept Lafayette's offer for Valhalmont's forces to join the Colonial Vinland Military on their final march to the Silversun, but Harbison refused and declared Valhalmont its own independent country.

The Regenia Invasion

Five years after the War of Revolutions, Harbison Killian declared that Valhalmont's strength allowed them to claim supremacy over the other former Vinland colonies. Ajax, now a young man, reluctantly joined his remaining brothers, cousins, uncle, and other Valhalmonters as they marched south and invaded Regenia.

They successfully conquered the smaller towns in Regenia's northern wine territory, but the defensive fortifications built around Regenia's capital of Richland was too much for Valhalmont to overcome. Ajax's brother Alexi and several of his cousins all died on the assault of the capital, and his other brother Andress and his remaining cousins died once Lafayette Harmen and his forces arrived to push the invaders out of Regenia.

A Royal Battle

Harbison Killian, grief stricken over the death of all his sons and the impeding failure of his invasion, ordered all remaining Valhalmonters to attack the Vinland forces despite being severely outnumbered. The impending senseless death was the final straw for Ajax, and he challenged his uncle to a Royal Battle, Valhalmont's way of choosing a Chief through a trial by combat. Unlike the typical Royal Battle where the supporters of each challenger participate, Ajax and Harbison was a one-on-one fight. The battle was hard fought and bloody, but in the end Ajax prevailed and slew his uncle, thereby claiming the title of Chief and becoming the new leader of Valhalmont.

Ajax surrendered to Lafayette Harmen, but Lafayette welcomed him as an ally. His only request being Ajax ratify the Vinland Constitution, and the new Chief complied, thereby finally establishing the country of United Vinland.

United Vinland

Through slow and steady means, Chief Ajax Killian slowly integrated Valhalmont into United Vinland. He opened up trade with the other states, although the bulk of Valhalmont's production is still contained in the state. He also banned firearms in the state as he viewed them as making the men of Valhalmont weak fighters and one of the biggest reasons why the Regenia Invasion failed. At the start of his rule, he was challenged several times to Royal Battles, but his supporters greatly outnumbered any challengers and each Royal Battle was handedly won.

He was eventually revealed to have a son, Caleb. The boy is a constant presence around his father, and although Ajax is tough on his son, he does not put him through the same hardships that Ajax experienced as a youth.
