Summary

Following the success of Martin Keene's The Natural Order, and the rise of anti-Deus Ultima sentiment, the Apella playwrights created Deus Man, a play mocking the God King. The Ultima Church and Warden Oranje ordered the play banned. Despite Cambria Unchained's objections, Romeo the Rational agreed that the play must be banned which marked the first time a piece of art was censored in Apella.

This level of censorship was unheard of, and soon after various articles containing the most offensive stories began to appear in Apella's newspaper, The Thespian. They were authored by a mysterious figure who called themself the Archon, and the pamphlets became a big hit in the colony. Reluctantly, Cambria Unchained clamped down on their distribution which only incensed the flames of rebellion.

In response, Apella's most famous playactor, Nathanial McCann, backed out of all of his performances. With Nathanial's lead, other performers and artists soon canceled all of their performances which effectively shut down the colonies economic engine. This collective freeze of all entertainment was known as Apella's Silence.
