Half-Chittery, Half-man.

He grew up at a small ranch outside Kansas City.

It was attacked when he was a boy by raiders. He prayed to leukic and was saved by his mother and friends. Went to live with chittery after that.

For Leukic, the Chittery don’t have a name for him. Leukic was just the name that Baylore internalized as a boy.

He serves as a trader for the Chittery. Trading gold found in eagle territory for things such as nails, screws, and basic tools. He dreams of being a hero and living an exciting life. Wishes he could fly like the other Chittery.

If Leukic is destroyed, he will lose his powers as a herald.

He has a philosophical question that he ponders throughout the whole book. Was he born or hatched? At first he assumes he was hatched since all chittery were hatched, but that’s because he doesn’t know what it means to be born.

He turns into Orn. The chittery herald.

Baylore one has the good philosophy describe himself as an aeromancer and the debate is with him trying to convince Ben to let him fly him onto the roof. He describes himself as someone considered the God of wind in the blessed corps. He could raise an egg from the grown into the nest without breaking it. Baylore volunteers after hearing Nigel describe it as flying.

So Baylore's mom's role is patrolling a certain sector of sky. She's an eagle and can thus see things easily, so she's been watching this nice couple for years if not decades and thinks they'd give Baylore a better life than if he lived with the chittery. The story can remain the same, it just gives justification for why he grew up with them and could speak English. Baylore's mom continued to patrol the skies and would never report this couple as encroaching on kushna as a way to protect Baylore. Also, would it make sense if the chittery could not feel shame. That would give her a bit of an out for not feeling despodant about giving up Baylore.
